HP ProLiant DL380p G8

HP Logo

HP ProLiant DL380 G8 servers are built to enterprise standards and support most business applications. Their Integrated Lights Out card (HP iLO) is a remote management platform that allows administrators to manage several virtual machines with ease. These servers have been designed with high density computation in mind, and strike the perfect balance between processing power and data storage. Built for enterprise, these systems are designed to thrive in a robust production environment.

Intel Logo

Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 and E5-2600v2 series processors feature enhanced virtualization capabilities (Intel VT-x and VT-d) ensuring maximum efficiency when working with hypervisor applications such as VMWare ESXI. A maximum clock speed of 3.5 Ghz allows for high performance in single-threaded applications. Up to 48 threads allow for highly multi-threaded applications. Equipped with Intel SpeedStep technology, these processors will dynamically adjust their power usage and reduce their clock speed when the load is light.

DDR3 memory means these servers meet the needs of modern applications that can benefit from increases in memory speed. The flexibility offered by 24 slots that can be populated with up to 32GB PC3 DIMMs allows these servers to operate effectively even when a large amount of memory is required.

In addition to the wide range of capacities that can be installed, these servers support ECC (Error-correcting code) memory. This enables operation in mission-critical environments where consistent system uptime is required and data integrity must be preserved. Here at TechMikeNY, we recommend that all mission-critical systems that require a high uptime be configured with ECC ram.

This server comes with an integrated P420i storage controller, offering hardware RAID functionality. This ensures that if a disk failure occurs, there is no loss of data or interruption to your operation. These controllers support up to 2GB cache configurations, which in turn allow the controller to speed up reading and writing to your disk array. The cache is protected by a battery, which allows the controller to retain data that hasn’t yet been written to the disk, in the event of a sudden power loss. With support for up to 12 x 3.5" or 25 x 2.5" drives in hot-plug bays connected to the storage controller, you will be able to expand your storage as needed while retaining a level of redundancy.

With quad gigabit network ports, this server is able to handle the networking needs of the most demanding business environments. These ports are capable of NIC-teaming, which allows a server to bolster the bandwidth available between it and the network by combining multiple ports in a single link for a faster transfer speed.

A dedicated port for the remote management capabilities available through HP’s iLO 4 means you won’t need to share the bandwidth of your server with management operations. This allows you to separate the management network completely, thereby enabling you to adequately manage your server even when the available bandwidth is being saturated by the network load.

Power Supply

With support for redundant hot-plug power supplies, you won’t have to worry about data loss due to a power supply failing. These power supplies can be connected to two separate power lines so as to ensure that a power outage doesn’t interrupt server operations. If one power supply is still connected, the other can be swapped out without shutting the server down, ensuring a power supply failure does not cause an outage.

HP Common Slot Power Supplies have a power efficiency that reaches up to 96%. Designed with maximum efficiency in mind, these power supplies are available for a few different power profiles - 460w, 750w, 1200w and 1500w. In addition to offering multiple power levels, these power supplies can be configured to either split the load in a redundant configuration, or to set one to standby mode. This allows datacenters to maximize efficiency based on their expected load.

In addition to being highly efficient, these power supplies allow for hassle-free, tool-less hot-swap maintenance, and are compatible with a wide range of HP servers.
